I feel like I've spent much of life being utterly DEPRIVED because I only really got into Neil Gaiman in the last few years. I read a few of the Sandman books in my late teens, but its only in the last couple of years that I've really gotten more books. American Gods is one of my favourites, and I particularly enjoy his collaboration with Terry Pratchett, Good Omens. That book always makes me feel happy when I'm down.

Who else loves Neil?

MEEEE
I feel deprived, too.
I only got into him like... last year?
Obviously read Coraline in younger years, but... sort of forgot who the author was, but never the book.

Honestly, I hadn't even heard of Coraline when I was a child. I do hear some Americans say they knew it, but I have never, and never recall anyone reading it when I was at school. But then again, my school sucked lol.

Meh, I wasn't a 'child' so very long ago :P
I do love that book so very much!
Oh, I'm not american, that might be why?
My current school library has it :) They also have Stardust, M is for Magic and The Graveyard Book (one of my ALL TIME fav. books!)
I try to convince a lot of people to read them, but no one will believe my word that he really is amazing, they just tend to say something along the lines of 'Honestly, you're odd and i don't trust your good judgement. You love Labyrinth for God's sake!' and that's how far it gets :'(
I forced my best friend to read TGYB, and she liked it, so I'm getting somewhere!
xx

If they think Neil Gaiman is just for kids, they've obviously never heard of American Gods :P

And I love Labyrinth too!

But no, I'm not American, I'm British, but I honestly never saw Neil Gaiman books at my school libraries. I feel a bit miffed, as if they were hiding something from me!

They honestly do!
Ah, no, they haven't, actually. I've yet to read that one... I was going to buy it today, but didn't get around to it! (Though I spent almost 2 hours in the only 2 bookshops on the island, and left with no money, how does that work? haha)

Yay! Honestly, it's amazing! Great minds think alike ;)

Me too :)
Awh :( I don't think they had Gaiman in my prep-school though, but I might be wrong, it was a while ago... even if I was an assistant librarian :P
They were!
I feel like that too, though, with a lot of authors and my school library.
xx

I had heard of him here and there, but I thought he was like one of those really adult authors who wrote really confusing and boring books for old men.

I would like to begin reading some of his books, but I have NO IDEA where to start.. any suggestions..?

I would probably say start with a novel first, like Neverwhere, rather than one of his collection books (he has a couple of books that are collections of short stories, novellas and poems). Neverwhere is probably a good place to start...especially if, going by your EA avatar, you like rats, because there's rats in it :D

Some of his books can be rather adult (American Gods) but many are also rather funny, and Neverwhere definately has a lot of dark humour in it. Coraline is another good one to start with, as it's written for children originally. But 2 other good starters I would suggest are the Graveyard Book (another children's book, but whenever Gaiman writes for kids, its just as entertaining for adults), and Good Omens. Good Omens was actually co-written with Terry Pratchett, but its hilarious :D
